Why I love it

Serving Cross Street since 1867 and still one of the most beautiful rooms in Manchester — green glazed tiles floor to ceiling, brass rails, cask ale and a corned beef hash people cross the city for. It's on CAMRA's national list of historic pub interiors, and you can feel why the second the door swings shut behind you.

• A pint of cask bitter at the tiled bar
• Steak and oyster pie if it's cold out
